Japan eSIM from India: prices in rupees for 7, 15 and 30 days (September 2026)

Japan is the destination Indian travellers ask us about most, and it is also the one where the eSIM question is simplest: every visitor phone works on Japan's networks, there is no local-SIM paperwork worth doing for a short trip, and a data plan installed in India before departure means Google Maps, IC-card apps and WhatsApp work the moment the plane doors open at Narita or Kansai.

This guide is about money and fit. What a Japan eSIM costs from AirZippy

Two things stand out. The 3 GB and 5 GB seven-day plans are the same price as their three-day versions, so there is never a reason to buy the three-day plan for a trip longer than a weekend. And above 10 GB the per-gigabyte price keeps falling, which matters if you plan to hotspot a laptop or upload video.

How our prices compare with Airalo and Nomad

We checked two of the largest international eSIM sellers on the same day. Airalo now sells Japan as unlimited-data plans only; Nomad sells both fixed and unlimited plans and shows rupee prices to Indian visitors.

Which size fits your trip

A weekend or a short business trip (up to 3 days). 3 GB covers maps, messaging, email and a few photos. Buy the 7-day version anyway — it costs the same and gives you slack if the trip runs over.

A week in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. 5 GB is the plan most people buy. If you will stream video on the Shinkansen or hotspot a laptop for work, take 10 GB; the extra costs ₹649 against ₹449.

Two weeks, family of four with one phone as the hotspot. 20 GB for 15 days. Sharing one connection is allowed on every plan and is usually cheaper than four small plans.

A month or longer. 20 GB or 50 GB for 30 days. Both can be topped up from the same WhatsApp chat before they run out, so start smaller if you are unsure.

One thing no plan changes: Japanese addresses and station names are easier with an offline map downloaded on Wi-Fi before you leave. Do that and the eSIM only has to carry live traffic.

Installing it before you fly

The QR arrives on WhatsApp and by email within minutes of payment. Install at home on Wi-Fi; the plan does not start until it connects in Japan.

iPhone (iOS 17 or later): Settings → Mobile Service → Add eSIM → Use QR Code → scan the code from the message. Label the line "Japan". Leave your Indian SIM as the default for calls. On landing, open Settings → Mobile Service → the Japan line, switch on Data Roaming, and set it as your Mobile Data line.

Android (Samsung, Pixel, OnePlus): Settings → Connections (or Network & internet) → SIM manager → Add eSIM → scan the QR. Keep the Indian SIM active for calls and WhatsApp verification; select the new eSIM for mobile data. On landing, turn on Data roaming for the Japan line.

Going beyond Japan on the same trip?

A Japan plan covers Japan only. Does a Japan eSIM work on my Indian phone?

Yes, if the phone has eSIM hardware and is not carrier-locked. iPhone XS/XR and newer sold in India, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and most 2022-onward OnePlus, Motorola and Nothing phones qualify. Dial *#06# — if an EID line appears, the phone can hold an eSIM.

Can I keep using WhatsApp on my Indian number?

Yes. WhatsApp stays tied to your Indian number and simply uses the eSIM's data. Calls to your Indian number will ring if your Indian SIM has international roaming enabled; if not, ask people to use WhatsApp calls, which cost nothing extra.

When does the validity start?

When the eSIM first connects to a Japanese network. Buying and installing a week early costs nothing; the days start counting on arrival.

Is hotspot allowed?

Yes, on every AirZippy Japan plan, with no separate hotspot cap.

What if it does not connect?

Reply on the same WhatsApp chat you ordered from. Most cases are Data Roaming switched off or the eSIM not set as the data line, and a person checks the line with you. If the eSIM never connected to a network, we refund.
